Survival post

21-12-2012.

Oh wait. Didn't just the world end or am I blogging straight from Hell? :-

Many have said that this date would mark the end of our planet and everything living in it. But hello! I have survived and so did you. The entire human race has survived. And what has happened to this Earth? Absolutely nothing. It is like someone has played a prank to fool this whole world and well, it seems that they have succeeded in their plan. Not all the 7 billion+, but there is major sect who actually believed that there wasn't going to be a tomorrow. And the question of from where did this all start, goes back to one of the earliest civilizations in the history. There was this calender. A Mayan calender, which said that today, right on the 21st of December 2012, some cataclysmic events would occur that would end the 5125 year long cycle according to the Mayans. On what basis did they arrive at this conclusion is still a mystery to me. Why do I care? Because I don't want to die young. Who would want to? Come on now, I'm not 18 yet and I didn't even watch 500 movies till date and I still hope that there is another book about Harry Potter and I so badly want to know why Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore broke up. For Heavens sake, I don't even own a Canon 550D! And I want to read and write more. No Aztec/Mayan can ever stop me saying that you can't do any of this after December 21st. No boy, just because you ran out of space to fit in few more dates on that stone of yours.(No offence intended) But birth and death aren't something which are for us to control, right? We all know that someday or the other we'd bid a farewell to this life and sleep happily ever after and I'm sure you didn't buy whatever crap about the 2012 destruction the Mayans tried to sell. Then why think about something that we know is never going to happen? Maybe we didn't have anything else better to do. Name the worst fear of any living being. Death. People, animals, plants, all these years of evolution has taught something that will not let us just die. The art of survival is what keeps us from giving up on life. If this survival is on the stakes, you'd be worried. This one simple point has made the whole theory of Apocalypse popular. So popular that the movie, 2012 has earned a gross of approximately $770 million. Most of them who watched this movie might have watched it to see what would really happen if the prediction turned out to be true. It makes you curious, doesn't it? How the world is going to end, will it flood or is there going to be a massive earthquake, or even more wild things that you thought would happen. Good for those people who made some money out of this phenomenon. And yeah, I too enjoyed the movie.

Not only did the Mayans presume that someday there'll be an end to everything, but there are instances where we can find something or the other related to this concept in every religion too. Hinduism to Christianity to Islam to Buddhism to Zoroastrianism. Hindus believe that when the tenth and the last avatar or the last incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Kalki,  is to take place, the current period, Kali Yuga culminates, like it has happened before in the previous three Yugas. A certain song of a Telugu film has these lyrics which explain why there has to be an end to every period which says, "....
cheliyali kattanu tenchukoni vilayamu vijrumbhinchunani, dharma mulane marachina jagathini yugantham edurai munchunani..." Meaning, whenever the Dharma, the order of the universe which keeps everything under control is disturbed or violated, the only way to restore peace to this land is by concluding the time period in which we live. This makes me think that it could also be true that the Mayans were referring to the end of humanity and not the end of the world with the things going on around us. Innocent children getting killed, women being assaulted, people with power misusing it for their benefits. I guess this is what the then civilization was trying to tell us. If so, then I totally agree with the Mayans. And as per the Holy Bible, The Judgement Day is connected with that part of theology which deals with death, judgement and resurrection. Islamic version says that, it is believed to be the final assessment of humanity of Allah, with annihilation of all life, resurrection, and judgment. So the idea of the great catastrophe is firmly accepted by all the religions. Atheists, you are left to your own opinions though. Now you know why all those status updates, trending articles and funny pictures on the social networking websites have so many likes and shares and retweets. Some took it on a serious note and the others couldn't help but troll about it. If you are thinking what did I do, my answer is that I'm writing another post on how we all are going to eat, play, work, study, party, love, hate, do some random stuff for the days coming after 21-12-2012. Because the world has survived. You heard that, the guy who came up with the calender? And sad thing for all those students, like me, who promised that they'd be studying hard from tomorrow. It is okay, we'll definitely find another excuse not to study. :-D One more thing, if the world is really going to end today or tomorrow or whenever in this lifetime make sure that you don't regret dying. And for that, live today without any regrets. :-) If there's no tomorrow, you always have today. Make the most of every moment and keep smiling, be the reason for ten other people to smile. Love it. Live it. Because from now on 21st December is the new April Fools Day.

P.S. I'm not going to die until I finish watching atleast 250 movies and take a minimum of 1000 pictures with my SLR and read 500 books. I can comprise with a 400 otherwise. ;-)
