New Year's Eve!

Dear 2013, They say time and tide wait for none. True, isn't it? I mean it seems like only yesterday that I've met you and it's been one year already. One amazing year, I must mention.  So many memories, many many stories, I can never forget how wonderful you've been. There is so much to talk, but let's see how much you remember from the last 12 months. I guess it was somewhere around mid April, 2012 that I've started writing this blog. This year, my blog celebrated it's first birthday. Who knew this little girl (little? I'm 18 years old) would write a blog someday. The writing part, I never gave it a serious thought. I call myself a selfish writer, one who writes for their own pleasure. I started writing this blog with the same intent. It was only after a few weeks after I wrote a few posts I understood that writing is what I enjoy the most. Some experiments with writing and stuff has always been enjoyable. One of the best things I've ever done ...

The First Birthday.

How many of us remember the first birthday we've ever celebrated? Hm? No, I don't remember mine. So this one day I was going through all the photographs of my family and I came across a not very old photo. It had two girls in it, one had a sheepish smile showing off her teeth and the other, the younger one had this expression of 'I don't understand what's going on'. It doesn't really look like those taken on a birthday but then there was a cake too in the photo with a candle on it. Yeah, my first birthday. I have no idea how I celebrated my birthday when I turned 1. And my face in that photo shows it all. I'm sure as hell even you have a picture of your birthday somewhere taken when you didn't know what a birthday actually is. How I wish I remember what happened on that day. It's your day and you don't know what you did. Why? I mean, you have your parents and cousins and aunts telling you that you wore a green frock and had got a Mickey Mous...

Thank you teacher, God bless you!

One says that I'm very naughty. The other goes to my mother and complains that I never shut my mouth in the class. And another is a little concerned about the one and a half mark that  I lost in the Mathematics paper because I forgot to draw the rough diagram for a circumcircle. What only. Yeah, back in school I used to get this a lot on almost every Parent - Teacher Meeting. These teachers no.  My Mathematics teacher is the best I should say, no not because she taught me 2+2=4. Because she taught me that there are always many alternate solutions for a given problem. So what if I do not know what is the perimeter of a trapezium. At least I have learnt to subtract the worries and add a little joy to my life. Chemistry, the mystery is another favourite of mine. When it comes to questioning, my teacher never got tired of answering all the silly doubts that came from all the corners of the classroom. Only the one who questions will get all the answers they need, be it G...

The 15th of August.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.  I live in a country where the women are still afraid of stepping out of their houses. Parents are scared to give birth to a girl child. The righteous are forced to bow their heads to the corrupts. The ones who fight against the evils are appreciated with oppression. There are people whose minds are filled with fear. They are afraid to speak. They are afraid to act. They are afraid even to post their views on a social networking site. And we have quite peculiar notions as to only the wealthy and the powerful can have their heads held up high. And we are intimidated to ask why.   Where knowledge is free. My country's government has divided knowledge on the basis of caste rather than merit. In here 'what you are' is more important than 'who you are'. And it never ends there, we are accustomed to selling education at exorbitant prices. Which means, those who have no monies have no knowledge. We have buil...

SoS - Save our Sparrows

Image
It was beautiful with those tiny golden wings. Soaring so high, relishing the freedom of the sky. I sat on my porch step watching the flowers in my garden sway. Slowly it came down to the ground hopping around. It perched on a plant's branch, turning its head in different directions, looking for food probably. I went inside my kitchen and came back with a handful of rice grains. It flew away seeing me getting close to it. Strewing the grains carefully over the land I sat inside my home closely observing the little bird. After a while it returned to my garden and picked up all the grains clean in a minute. It chirped happily, could be 'thank you' in its language. Such a cheerful creature. :-D Remember this bird? It is this bird which made friends with humans easily than any other of its kind. Possibly you might have seen this bird a long time ago or read about it in your school books or heard your grand parents talk about how their avian buddies played with them when they...

For the child in you.

Here I am, doing what I love to do the most, writing. :-) Though I have been a bit busy, all along I kept thinking about things that I would want to write and share with my readers. My winter vacation in Chennai, the happiness and joy of clearing Common Proficiency Test (CPT), life at college, road trips, places that I have visited, people I have met, there is just so much to talk! And yes, the vacation part, I'll post a travelogue soon, everything about it, in detail. College too, had a lot to offer in the store. Arthashatra, Dept. of Commerce, St. Francis' fest came up, the first semester ended, and what more, a couple of months in the second semester and I'm done with the first year. :-D Then came the CPT result clearly stating that I passed the exam and the following month a set of 20 books knocked at my door, huge and fat ones, "Hi! Its the IPCC material buddy." It stood there, right on my doorstep, smirking. 20 books could just be a number to you, but it...

A lullaby....

Sleep my little one sleep all night, it was a long day and tiring anyway. I will tell you stories of the land far away. The wind is gentle letting the flowers sway. Learn to see the beauty of life everyday. Hold onto your dreams so that they won’t flyaway. When you lose hope and all the colors turn gray, don’t worry ‘cause it is going be okay. It wouldn't have been a good day, yesterday, but you still can enjoy this day, today. Tomorrow come what may, you are never leaving this battle midway. And the sweet music that you play, well, what can I say. I’ll think of a big gift for your birthday. Until then sleep my little one sleep all night. It was a long day and your happiness is for what I pray.                                                           -  Soumya Inavilli
