What The Pup Had To Say.

I don't remember how many days it has been since I was born, or rather I don't know how to count. All I remember was the morning I came to this world was a very cold one; my mother pulled me closer to her and I slept happily in the warmth that radiated from her body. When I woke up after a sound sleep I saw someone who looked exactly like me, except that it was of a different colour. And there were three others to my right, all were similar yet, their skin didn't match mine. I didn't know what to call them.

My eyes refused to open wide, but somehow I tried to peek through half-open eyes. As far as I remember, I first saw my mother; she was huge but weak. Then I saw my look-alikes.Most of the time mother was busy feeding us and this one look-alike who always slept on my left bit my tail once, mother got angry and made a loud noise. She used to leave us where we slept, which was a road as mother told in a quiet colony, and roam about for sometime searching for food, I suppose. We were growing up and now I can open my eyes without struggling much. The one on my left didn't stop biting my tail, we fought a lot and slowly the others too joined us. But when mother was around, we never bickered.

One day I tried hard to see what was around me, I couldn't recognise anything. My mother noticed that I woke up and snuggled. I couldn't go back to sleep. She told me about the ones who were fast asleep beside me, they were my brothers and sisters. She also told me where we were, how we got here and how to find food when she wasn't there. The next day I made an effort to stand on my legs and fell down only after a successful trail. My siblings too were standing up now, and hey, they were walking. All my endeavours ended in vain. It seemed like I won't be able to walk in this lifetime, I would try but not stand strong.

Mother said if I tried enough, I too would, let alone walk, chase after my brothers someday. And so I practiced standing up day and night. I used to stay back at home alone, and sometimes with my sister who loved to sleep for long hours. My siblings were roaming on the streets now, coming back home daily and telling me stories about how their day went. Listening to them made me want to explore the world, yet I couldn't manage to stand on my four legs.

Mother wasn't there when I woke up on a chilly morning. I stretched myself and accidentally poked my sister, she didn't move an inch. I got back to doing the usual routine, practicing how to stand up. After falling a good 12 times, I stood up the 13th time and wait, what, this is longer than the usual. Yayy! I barked with all the strength I could to celebrate my progress. My sister was still sleeping. Sigh. I didn't want to hurry this and was scared that I might fall again, slowly, very slowly I took a small step and then another and another one. I halted, inhaled deep and started out one more time. I am walking. Yes, I am walking! I thought I should go out, take a walk for a while and come back home to share my version of the outside world. I barked loud to wake up my sister, but she being a heavy sleeper didn't even hear me, I guess. Mother is not yet here and I wasn't sure if I should go.

She will definitely feel proud and there is nothing to worry about, let me give it a shot, I said to myself and went to the next street. Everything was so huge and strange! There were weird things on the road which walked on two legs and even more weird things which ran faster than mother and they ran on two round objects. I reached a place where it was silent and I couldn't see weird things anymore. The place scared me and my legs didn't want to go further. I turned back and walked faster than before, and picked up pace to get home before mother does.

I never knew I could run this fast, I took the street on my left and suddenly saw the weird thing that ran faster on the round objects coming closer to me. I froze. It felt like my brother bit my ear and I was now fallen on the side of the road , my eyes were closing down, couldn't feel my paws, I tried to stand, and I don't remember what happened next.I don't know for how long I was lying there, sleeping, the cold woke me up. I opened my eyes and realized that I needed to go back home, or else mother would be angry. I walked and walked and walked but couldn't find the right way. My ear was hurting, something sticky and wet was coming out of my ear. I don't know what it is, but it was getting worse.

I continued walking, smiffing along the road, the cold was killing me, I wanted food, I wanted to see mother. It was the 19th of December, 2014 according to the mankind's calendar. Sometime in the evening as I kept walking though my body pleaded to rest, the sticky part of my ear was itching, when I scratched it with my foreleg, it stung. I whimpered in pain, my voice came out as a feeble cry. I saw a weird thing with two legs coming towards me. It picked me up and took me somewhere, I fell asleep. It made me sit on the cold ground and caressed my face. The next moment I felt something warm and wet, what was it doing to me? I wanted to see mother. It touched my ear with the warm wet thing and slowly rubbed the stickiness away. Oh, it was so painful and I was too tired to cry.

It cleaned me neat and wrapped me in something which made me feel warm. The night was setting in and I fell asleep again. I heard it talking fast and sensed the worry in its voice. It carried me around in its arms and was going from one house to another, there were more weird things with two legs now. Some looked at me in disgust and some with pity. It went on talking with more weird things in a language I failed to comprehend. Later it put me in its lap and gave me milk to drink which I could finish only half. I was put in a new place under the stairs and I could see the night sky from here. It came and closed in whatever I was put with something. I curled up and slept.

I opened my eyes, it was staring at me and gave more milk. I drank it up and saw another weird thing. This one picked me up and cleaned with warm wet thing. I felt more relaxed than ever. I was put back in something small and this time it didn't cover me with anything. It held the thing in which I was trying to walk, which was too small and sat on the weird thing with two round objects. I was moving whilst sitting, has to be magic, I thought. I came and sat in a place where there was sunlight and lifted my head to soak in the warmth. Ah, life is so much better now. The ear didn't trouble, I'm not hungry, and I saw something in its eyes that reminded me of mother.

It was holding me in its arms and I lifted my paw to touch it, it petted me; I wanted to stay with it. After a while another weird thing with two legs took me away from it and I never saw it again. Maybe it didn't want me to stay. The new it said I will be happy here. I don't know if the old it loved me or not, but for me, it is my mother. In this new place I found more brothers and sisters, I play with them, there are something called toys and every week I meet new weird things. I wish the old it comes here one day and takes me into its arms again. And most importantly, thanks to all those who have helped it to keep me safe when others gave up.

Hi! This is me when I was sleeping at its place.
