So yeah, Valentine's Day.
No no, I'm not this kind of a person who likes red roses and big box of chocolates, waiting for solitaires and candle light dinners. But yes, like many of the girls who just can't stop watching Disney love stories over and over again, I have this one favourite movie which I can never get bored of. (I've watched this one for like, say 86 times, may be?) If there is a choice between a romantic-comedy and an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, I'd always root for Commando or Terminator or Total Recall.or True Lies. Lovey dovey stuff bores me to death and like Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Dairies said and I quote, "I've been in love. It's painful, pointless and overrated." And as much as I enjoy fairy tales, the fact that they are far from reality spoils all the fun. But look what Disney has done to me.The Beauty And The Beast, released in 1991 is the Disney version of the French traditional fairy tale. The whole movie is filled with enchantment, it is a fairy tale of course. :-P The story line is pretty simple, beauty isn't just about the physical appearance, it is much more, more than the eye can see, more deeper than the mere skin. And the way Disney has filmed it, I bet you can't stop wishing that this should be your story. (the boys probably wouldn't like an angel cursing them) The prologue, Belle's Bonjour song, Gaston's all teeth smile, Beast's ghastly personality, the talking things in the castle, singing plates and glasses and teapots welcoming Belle as their guest, the ball dance, and gosh that HUGE library, perfect fairy tale if you ask me.
As for those cute moments which make you smile without you knowing it, is when the Beast tries to feed himself with a spoon, and when Belle teaches him how to feed the birds and that moment when the Beast tries so hard to groom himself for the ball dance, and the Beast's transformation scene, Disney has totally nailed it!.So here's what I want for this February 14th, the Beast. And yes, his library too!
His face was marred with the scars of his past,
he doesn't even remember when he smiled the last.
It was the curse of the witch from the dark town, the
power of the throne made him arrogant, that’s what made her frown.
He hoped for a better day, and would cry because of the pain,
he waited everyday for the cure but in vain.
He turned into a monster, a beast who shut himself in the castle,
he wasn't aware of what he has become, cold hearted and callous.
It was around December that he met this girl,
she was as beautiful as an ocean pearl.
Like the others, she too was scared of his appearance,
and not for a moment he could stand her interference.
As the days passed, he realized that there was more to her beauty,
and slowly tried befriending her, instead of being snooty.
She too noticed those little changes in his attitude,
she got something precious than the diamonds as a sign of his gratitude.
they dined and danced together and rejoiced until the sunset,
he had never been so happy, the best dance he would never forget.
When the day came for her to leave him and go away,
his reason to smile quietly faded and everything around him turned grey.
Though he was hideous and rude, she knew that he was different at his heart,
and wondered why it was so difficult for her to break apart.
The wicked fate tricked her and abducted her overnight,
the monster came to her rescue and fought for her with all his might.
He wanted to save her no matter what, and finally won her in the battle game,
it was too late then to tell what he felt for her, he breathed his last uttering her name.
She bent down to kiss him, he didn't move, it touched his cheek, her tear,
like a miracle he came back to life, took her into his arms, and the end to this story isn't any near.
The curse was broken, his scars disappeared, and it couldn't have been better,
the girl was soon married to him, and they lived happily ever after.
No one thought that this was possible, for who could ever learn to love a beast,
there is no power greater than love, last but not the least. Soumya Inavilli
